Northern Terminus of the PCT with Parker & Grizz :)
Washington has some of my favorite sections on trail. It was challenging terrain but rewarded us with breathtaking views, even when the weather was overcast (which was not often — we only got drizzled on twice!!). Volcanoes loomed over rolling green meadows, and craggy mountains contrasted sharply with dense forest and acres of wildflowers. It was different than any hiking that I’ve done, and I definitely fell in love.
Washington evoked so many emotions in me — I can’t tell if it was purely because of the beauty of the landscape or the knowledge that my journey was coming to an end, or a combination of the two, but it was common for me to laugh and cry spontaneously. I can’t count how many times I stood on a ridge and just let the emotions run through me, unsure of what they would be until they manifested themselves.
Washington is beautiful, awe-inspiring, moody, spooky... there is so much character in its meadows and mountains. I can’t wait to return.
