SSC — coincidentally the Sierra section ends right around here

📝 Recap

I don’t know how to explain the impact the Sierra section had on me. Before writing this I think it all just hit me — I literally just broke down in tears for a while out of nowhere. There’s so many emotions, good and bad, tied into the last 17 days, and so many experiences jam packed into that time period, I think I just didn’t have time to process everything until now — and I will probably continue to process it over the next couple of months.

What I do know is that it was the most beautiful and unforgiving terrain that I’ve ever experienced. I fell in love with the mountains a few years ago the first time I lived in South Lake Tahoe, and the past two and a half weeks reconfirmed this love. The natural beauty and sheer awesomeness of the backcountry blew my mind and caused me to gain so much more respect for the wild.

We walked through endless snow fields, climbed over multitudes of mountain passes, forded and swam across countless rivers, woke up and fell asleep to the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and saw landscapes and vistas that I wish everyone could see at some point in their life.

There were many lows but many more highs. Countless times I would find myself laughing uncontrollably because of the insane beauty of my surroundings, and I felt like I always had a smile on my face out there, even when I was hungry and tired (which was all the time).

Sierra, you have humbled me and showed me once again why I love the outdoors. I feel so lucky and grateful to have been able to walk through the mountains and glimpse a slice of what they had to offer. The past two and a half weeks will take a while for me to fully process, but for now I am just happy to have had the good fortune to make it through with no injuries and many memories.
