It was really really difficult to leave Sierra Camp. The combination of spending so much time with Dyl, my old friends working at Camp for the summer, new friends that are experiencing Fallen Leaf Lake for the first time, and guests that I love made it really hard to say bye. But we had to, and luckily Matty Hayes was able to give us a ride to Echo Lake so we didn’t have to hike out from Camp and bushwhack for hours again.⁣

I was in my head the whole day, interrupted periodically by amazing views of snowy Desolation Wilderness. It’s funny, I got to walk through the entirety of Desolation in a day — something I never had a chance to do while living here because I always had to make it a round trip and end up back at Camp for the night. Today we just walked straight out so I saw the northern half of Desolation that I never got to hike through till now.⁣

Lots of thoughts went through my head, there was definitely some questions of why I’m back out here, why not just work at Sierra Camp for the summer and have a blast?? But after the first 15 miles I got into the zone and was really enjoying walking and seeing all the views. I’m really excited for the next several hundred miles and what it has to offer!⁣
